ROCHESTER, Mich. - IUPUI swimming and diving will face off against its last Horizon League team of the season with a dual meet against Oakland on Friday (Jan. 18). The meet against the Golden Grizzlies will begin at 5 p.m. at the Oakland Aquatic Center.
IUPUI comes in to the meet after seeing success against Cleveland State and UIC over the past weekend. In two days of dual meets, the women swept all four dual meets, while the men split both meets with the Vikings and the Flames.
The Jags will get a look at the defending champions from last year on both the men's and women's sides with a battle against Oakland. Last season against Oakland, the men lost by one point 150.5-149.5 while the IUPUI women were beaten 185.5-114.5.
The meet will be a meeting of two of the top teams on both the men's and women's teams in the Horizon League. In the 21 events on the men's side, IUPUI and Oakland hold 18 of the top times while on the women's side, 14 of the 21 top times are held by either a Jaguar or Golden Grizzlies.
On the men's side, IUPUI owns the longer freestyle events with senior
Ben Levart holding the top time in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle.
Jackson Sandala is first in the 200 freestyle with Levart holding the third spot.
Nick Hanas is second in the league in the 200 back and IUPUI's 800 freestyle relay is second in the league.
On the boards for the men,
Patrick Tener holds the second-highest point mark of the year in the 1-meter and
Krisztian Somhegyi is second in the 3-meter. Both top marks are held by Oakland's Joe Smith.
Olivia Treski holds the top women's time in the 1000 freestyle and
Mallory Buha is tops in the 100 fly. Five other Jaguars are second in their event –
Tori Kroon (50 free), Treski (1650 free),
Aubrey Wing (100 breaststroke) and
Carmen Escalante Ruiz (200 fly). IUPUI also holds the second best times in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. All of IUPUI's relays trail Oakland.
Rylee Dahlman is second in the women's 3-meter and third in the 1-meter while teammate
Blaire Wills has the third best score in the 3-meter this season.
