IUPUI (1-4-2) was primed for a home victory on Wednesday night (Sept. 5), but yielded three unanswered second half goals to Taylor University in playing the Trojans to a 3-3 draw.
Morgan Rymer,
Natalie McNally and
Elizabeth Bueckers all netted their first career scores in the tie while sophomore
Miranda Ricks tied the program's single-game record with three assists. Junior goalkeeper
Sophia Lipka played 65 minutes of scoreless soccer in net while reserve sophomore
Skylar England was in goal for the Trojans' three tallies.
Ricks has been the story of the Jaguars' first third of the season, either scoring or assisting on six of the team's seven goals. The sophomore from Avon, Ind., has eight points (two goals, four assists) to start the season while Bueckers and McNally are tied for second on the team with three points each. Lipka lowered her goals against average to 1.58 on the season, having made 38 saves at a .776 save percentage.
McNally has been a rock defensively, leading the field players in minutes played.
Twenty-one different players have seen time for the Jaguars in the season's early going, but head coach
Chris Johnson anticipates tightening up his rotations as Horizon League play nears.
QUOTABLE: "Give Taylor credit, they never quit and just kept coming at us. They never stopped and kept working and you tip your cap to them for getting three goals against us," head coach
Chris Johnson said after Wednesday's 3-3 draw with Taylor.
SCOUTING EVANSVILLE: Evansville is 2-5 on the season with wins over Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech. The Purple Aces are coming off a 4-0 road loss at Butler on Thursday night (Sept. 6). In goal, Michaela Till has started all seven matches, recording a 1.67 goals against average and 30 saves.
