INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will return home after five straight matches away from home when the Jaguars host Taylor University at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Wednesday night (Sept. 5). The Jags will kickoff against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Admission is FREE for IUPUI students with a valid Crimson Card and adult tickets are just $5 at the gates.
IUPUI was winless during the five-game road swing, going 0-4-1 with the lone result being a 1-1 draw at Eastern Illinois. The Jaguars were blanked in three of the five matches as the new look offense is still trying to find a groove in 2018. Sophomore
Miranda Ricks has two of the team's four goals while
Jessi Cowen and
Braegan Lyon also have tallies. Lyon scored the game-winner early in the second half of the season opening victory over Marian and Cowen added insurance with her first career goal in that match. Four different Jaguars have an assist through the season's first six games.
Freshman
Elizabeth Bueckers leads the Jaguars' attack with 11 shot attempts and last year's top scorer,
Valentine Pursey, has eight shots overall. Collectively, IUPUI has been outshot by seven shots per game and has yet to score a first half goal this season.
In goal, junior
Sophia Lipka has played all 560 minutes and has a 1.77 goals against average and 37 saves in six starts. Sophomore midfielder
Natalie McNally leads the Jaguars' field players in minutes played.
QUOTABLE: "It's good and it's getting better, but it's still not good enough to win the game. It's kind of like a broken record at this point, but it's kind of where we're at. We had [offensive] chances and we defended pretty well, but it just wasn't good enough today," head coach
Chris Johnson said after Sunday's 2-0 loss at Toledo.
SCOUTING TAYLOR: Taylor University comes in at 2-0-1 this season which includes a 5-0 win over Cincinnati Christian and 5-1 victory over Olivet Nazarene. Freshman Erin Teevans leads Taylor with five goals and two assists and senior midfielder Bailey Zehr has two goals and a team-high five assists. In goal, Megan Williams and Lauren Engelkes have split time with Williams earning all three decisions. Williams has a 0.58 goals against average and 12 saves while Engelkes has a 0.67 GAA and five saves.
