INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI volleyball freshman
Rachel Hickey has been named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday (Sept. 4). Hickey led the Jags in digs over their four matches last week.
Hickey led the Jags back row defense averaging 6.46 digs per set as IUPUI went 2-2 over the past week of play. The freshman reached double-digit digs for the first time in her career with a 22-dig effort in IUPUI's three-set win over Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Mishawaka, Ind., native tallied 17 digs against Western Michigan and followed that effort with 20 digs in another three-set win over SIUE. Hickey then upped her game in a three-set match against Northern Arizona, posting a career-high 25 digs against the Lumberjacks. Hickey leads the Jags with 4.33 digs per set, which is sixth in the Horizon League.
Hickey and the rest of the Jaguars will be back in action with three games at Ohio University in the Bobcat Invitational over the weekend. The Jags will play two games on Friday (Sept. 7) against Virginia Tech (12:30 p.m.) and Samford (5 p.m.). IUPUI will finish the weekend taking on Ohio on Saturday (Sept. 8) at 2 p.m.
