CINCINNATI, Ohio - The IUPUI men's soccer team will once again step away from league play for a midweek contest this week as the Jaguars take on Cincinnati on Wednesday night (Sept. 26) at 7:00 p.m.. The Jaguars are fresh off a 1-0 double overtime heartbreaker at Green Bay as IUPUI (1-5-2) was upended on a penalty kick in the game's 109th minute.
IUPUI was on the verge of a third shutout of the season and a much needed point in the Horizon League standings when an infraction inside the 18-yard box gave Green Bay a shot from the spot. GB's Tomer Zloczower got a shot past rookie goalkeeper
Quinn McCallion for the game's lone score. After 90 scoreless minutes, the Jaguars came out enthused at the start of overtime and ultimately outshot the Phoenix 4-3 in extra time. However, Zloczower's winner ended one of the Jaguars' best defensive efforts of the season.
At the other end, IUPUI is still looking to find its footing offensively as the Jags have scored just three goals on the year. Sophomore back
Tommy Patacca has two of the team's three goals and junior midfielder
Alan Aguilar has a team-high nine shot attempts. Freshman back
Corey Goede has two of the team's three assists while junior
Pedro Valladao has the team's lone game-winner.
IUPUI is looking to snap a streak of 39 straight road contests without a win, dating back to the 2014 season. The Jaguars last true road win was a 3-1 victory at Houston Baptist on Sept. 13, 2014 when IUPUI scored three unanswered second half goals to stun HBU. IUPUI's last road conference win was in 2012 when the Jags defeated Oral Roberts, 2-0 on Oct. 13 that season.
JAGS MAKING AN IMPACT: Last spring, the IUPUI men's soccer team signed Fishers-native Tyler Harris to a letter of intent to join the program through a partnership with Team IMPACT. Harris, an 11-year old battling cystic fibrosis, was on the sidelines for his first game when the Jaguars hosted Bradley earlier this season. Harris has already had a profound impact on the Jaguars' program as members of the team have also visiting the sixth-grader at home and have plans to support him at upcoming cross country meets and other events.
HANCOCK COUNTY PROMISE: The IUPUI men's soccer team was among a large contingent of student-athletes that participated in the Hancock County Promise Day at Carroll Stadium earlier this season as Barnett and his student-athletes interacted with more than 1,000 third-graders over the course of the day.
SCOUTING CINCINNATI: Cincinnati has fallen on hard times this season with a 1-7 record and 0-4 mark at home at Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats' sole victory of the year was a 2-0 win at Horizon League foe Cleveland State on Aug. 31. Six different UC players have one goal while Ryan Melink and Donovan Segree have two assists each. Noah Lawrence and Pearce Skinner have split the minutes almost perfectly down the middle with Lawrence registering a 1.48 goals against average and 10 saves. Skinner has a 2.25 GAA in his four starts and 13 saves.
INSIDE THE SERIES: IUPUI is 2-5 all-time against Cincinnati and lost to the Bearcats 2-1 last season.
Yan Souza tallied the Jaguars' goal off a Valladao assist in the game's 34th minute before UC scored twice in the second half, including the game-winner in the 63rd minute.
NEXT UP: IUPUI will return home to host Oakland University on Saturday (Sept. 29) at 4:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium. That match will be the second game of a home doubleheader as one ticket will provide admission to both the women's game with Youngstown State and the  men's match with OU. The men's match will be broadcast on ESPN+ as Morgan Adcock (pxp) is on the call.
