URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – IUPUI softball's regular season came to an end with a 7-2 defeat at the University of Illinois on Tuesday evening (May 1).
The Jags (14-31) got down early as Illinois hit three home runs in the first two innings to jump out to a 6-0 lead.
IUPUI would get on the board in the fourth as
Kristin London reached on a fielding error by Illinois' shortstop that allowed
Delilah Wright to cross the plate. Wright got on base with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and moved over to third on a ground out by
Haley Ginger.
Delainey Turner broke up what had been a combined no-hitter in the top of the sixth with a single to right field to lead off the inning. With two outs, Ginger brought home Turner on a triple to left field but the Jags could not muster any other offense.
IUPUI will now have to wait and see if its season will continue. The Jags have finished their conference season and are currently in sixth place. The top six teams make the conference tournament but every team other than IUPUI will be in action over the weekend as the Jags will see where they land after the final weekend of play.
