INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI softball came up short against cross-town foe Butler on Wednesday afternoon (April 25), falling to the Bulldogs by a score of 7-3.
Delilah Wright led the way for the Jags (13-28), at the plate going 2-for-3 and scoring a run. #Kristin London finished with IUPUI's only extra base hit of the game, a triple, in the top of the sixth.
Mandy Dallas and
Haley Pence each drove in a run of the Jags, who have now lost three-straight games to the Bulldogs.
IUPUI picked up an early run on Dallas' sacrifice fly that scored
Haley Ginger, who led of the game with a walk and moved to third after a Wright single and wild pitch.
Butler tied the game in the bottom of the second after an error by IUPUI third baseman
Dani Cinquepalmi. The Jags quickly answered, taking the lead back in the third as Wright scored on a wild pitch.
The Bulldogs took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the frame after an infield single and another error by IUPUI allowed two runs to cross the plate.
In the bottom of the fifth, Butler extended its lead to three, bringing home two more runs.
IUPUI looked to mount a rally in the sixth as London led off with the triple down the left field line and scored on Pence's sacrifice fly to the center field warning track two batters later.
Ashley Ousley ripped a single to left and
Sabrina Trevino walked to put a runner in scoring position with two outs but
Delainey Turner's line drive was snagged by the second baseman to end the threat.
The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.
London pitched her first-career complete game in the loss, throwing all six innings, allowing just five earned runs and striking out a batter.
The Jags will return home to the IUPUI Softball Complex for their final Horizon League series of the regular season as IUPUI will host Detroit Mercy. The series will start with a double header, beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday and will conclude on Saturday at 3 p.m. with Senior Day.
