JAGUARS SWEPT BY UIC IN DOUBLE HEADER

IUPUI will return home to continue Horizon League play against Cleveland State on Friday (April 13).

CHICAGO, Ill. – IUPUI dropped both games on Wednesday (April 11) to UIC as the Flames completed the series sweep against the Jaguars.

IUPUI (10-23, 6-8 Horizon) struggled after runners got on base, leaving 13 runners on in the two games. UIC (17-15, 6-3 Horizon) used the long ball, clubbing eight home runs over the two games.

GAME 1: UIC 12, IUPUI 7

UIC used the long ball, hitting five home runs in total, to power past the Jags, 12-7 in game one.

The Flames 12 runs are the second-most given up by IUPUI this season and UIC pounded out 15 hits on the afternoon.

IUPUI finished the game with eight hits, including two each from Haley Ginger and Maddie Keeley. Ginger and Mandy Dallas each drove in two runs for Elisabeth Beirne's squad.

UIC jumped on IUPUI starter Dezirae Leonard early, as Skylee James hit a two run home run in the second at bat of the game. In the bottom of the second, the Flames struck again. James followed her home run with a two-out bases loaded double that drove in two and a third run followed on a throwing error by Delilah Wright.

IUPUI did not lie down, mounting a two-out rally of its own in the top of the third. With two outs, Ginger doubled to left center to score Wright and Kristin London. Dallas then hit her fourth home run of the season in the next at bat to bring the Jags within one.

The one-run deficit was short-lived as Kayla Wedl drilled a two-run home run to left center to put the Flames back up three.

In the top of the fourth, IUPUI began the inning with two singles and a sacrifice bunt to put two runners in scoring position. Megan Overton picked up an RBI bringing home London on a sacrifice fly but Delainey Turner grounded out to end the inning with the Jags still down two.

IUPU managed to pull within one again in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with only one out after a walk by Maddy Griffin. London managed to bring home a run, getting hit by a pitch to end a seven-pitch at bat. It was the 13th time this season that Griffin has been hit by a pitch.

With two outs and the bases still loaded, Wright struck out swinging to end the threat.

Another solo home run started the bottom of the fifth for UIC and the Flames added another run with two outs to push the lead to 9-6.

IUPUI yet again loaded the bases in the top of the sixth, this time with no outs. Dallas hit a ground ball that saw Overton thrown out at home for the first out. Keeley drove in a run on a fielder's choice and UIC got out of the inning as Griffin grounded out to first base.

UIC would add to its lead with two more home runs in the bottom of the sixth, both with two outs.

IUPUI struggled with runners in scoring position, going 3-for-13 as UIC went 5-8. The Jags also went 0-for-4 as a team with the bases loaded.

GAME 2 UIC 11, IUPUI 0 (5 INNINGS)

UIC continued to use the long ball in the second game of the day, downing IUPUI 11-0 in five innings to complete the series sweep.

After opening up the game in the bottom of the first with an RBI double, UIC struck for six runs in the bottom of the second, all coming with two outs. Skylee James hit her second home run of the day, a three-run shot, after the Jags picked up the second out.

After a hit batter and a walk, Kayla Wedl struck for another three-run home run to make it 7-0 Flames.

In the bottom of the fourth, more two out runs doomed the Jags. James singled to left field to bring home her fourth RBI and Tiana Mack-Miller hit UIC's third-three run home run of the game.

The Jags finished with three hits in the game, coming from Kristin London, Adison Lorsung and Delilah Wright. For the game, IUPUI went 1-for-10 with runners on base and 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
