NASHVILLE, Tenn. – IUPUI's offense struggled in losses to Bowling Green and Lipscomb on Sunday, only collected three runs and seven hits.
GAME 1: Bowling Green 4, IUPUI 3
Adison Lorsung finished the game 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for IUPUI (4-15) but it was not enough as a two-run fifth inning gave Bowling Green a 4-2 lead that the Falcons would not relinquish.
Lorsung tied the game at two in the bottom of the fourth, driving home
Kristin London on a two-out single.
Bowling Green answered quickly with a lead-off home run against starter
Dezirae Leonard.
Megan Overton (3-6) entered after the home run and allowed a two-out double that pushed the Falcons lead to four.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Lorsung singled home Overton and advanced to second on the throw home.
Sabrina Trevino flied out to right field to end the Jaguar threat.
IUPUI scored all three of its runs with two outs as
Delilah Wright brought home
Maddy Griffin with two down in the bottom of the third to put the Jags on the board.
Trevino and
Haley Ginger both finished with hits in the game. Ginger's hit was her fourth double of the season.
GAME 2: LIPSCOMB 2, IUPUI 0
IUPUI could not get any offense going against Lipscomb in the second game of the day, finishing with only two hits and only had three runners reach base. Ginger finished the game 1-for-3 and also reached base on an error in the fourth. Maddie Griffin collected the Jags other hit, going 1-for-2.
Despite picking up the loss, Megan Overton (3-7) had a solid day in the circle, throwing a complete game, only allowing two runs on seven hits. Overton did a good job with runners on base, stranding seven Bisons during the game.
Lipscomb scored its first run on a single in the bottom of the third and added a solo home run in the fifth.
The Jags best chance for a run came in the fourth when Ginger reached on an error and was moved to third with two outs. Overton grounded out to end the Jags threat and IUPUI would not get another runner in scoring position.
IUPUI will come back to Indianapolis for its first home games of the season next week. The Jags will face Valparaiso on Tuesday, with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and then take on Indiana State Wednesday for a double header beginning at 2 p.m.
