CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – IUPUI (2-7) was on the wrong end of two losses in Chattanooga on Saturday (Feb. 24), falling to both Southeast Missouri State and Eastern Illinois.
GAME 1: Southeast Missouri State 7, IUPUI 0
Offense was hard to come by for IUPUI as the Jags only finished with five hits.
Kristin London collected two hits, going 2-for-3 on the day. The Jags stranded six runners in the loss.
Meagan Overton (2-1) picked up her first loss of the season after throwing all seven innings. Overton allowed seven hits and struck out five but also issued six walks.
The Redhawks did all of their damage in the third and fourth innings, scoring four in the third and three in the fourth. Southeast Missouri State was aided by three Jaguar errors.
GAME 2: Eastern Illinois 5, IUPUI 3
A late pinch-hit home run doomed the Jags in the second game of the day for IUPUI. With the score tied at two in the top of the sixth, Eastern Illinois untied the game with a two-out, three-run pinch-hit home run that proved to be fatal for the Jags chances.
IUPUI got on the board first as
Adison Lorsung tripled home
Haley Ginger. Lorsung and Ginger both finished the day 2-for-4, accounting for half of the Jags hit.
After Eastern Illinois took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, IUPUI evened up the score with Lorsung's second RBI of the game, bringing home
Maddie Keeley on a single.
Ginger added the Jaguars final run in the bottom of the seventh but the Jags rally fell short.
Dezirae Leonard had one of her best starts of the year but still could not find her first win. Leonard went the distance, allowing nine hits and striking out two, but made the costly mistake in the top of the sixth, giving up the three-run homer.
IUPUI will play its final game of the Frost Classic on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. against UT-Martin.
