CHATTANOOGA - Haley Ginger delivered a bases-loaded, two-run single with two outs, to give IUPUI a 2-1 win over UT-Martin to finish the Jags time in Chattanooga this weekend.
IUPUI (3-7) went in to the last frame down by a run and the first two batters of the inning were retired, leaving the Jags to their last out.
Delilah Wright reached base on an error by the left fielder to keep the hope alive.
Megan Overton who pitched another stellar game, doubled to left field and
Maddie Keeley walked to load the bases for Ginger.
Ginger's single to right-field gave the Jags the lead but the drama was not over.
In the bottom of the seventh, UT-Martin (6-8) staged a comeback, loading the bases with two outs. Overton would buckle down and get the last batter to strike out swinging to give IUPUI the win.
"It was a really good team win," said head coach
Elisabeth Beirne. "We showed great fight and determination to pull this thing out."
Ginger, who was riding a four-game hitting streak, was held hitless until the final inning.
Maddie Keeley had her best game of the season, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, the first time this year Keeley has recorded multiple hits in a game. Keeley also stole two bases to increase her total to five for the season.
The real star of the game was Overton, who won her third game of the season and improved her record to 3-1. Overton threw another complete game and only allowed one unearned run and three hits, while striking out six batters. Overton also finished 1-for-4 at the plate with the ninth inning double.
The Jags will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Louisville for five games.
