JAGS SHUTOUT EVANSVILLE, FALL TO CHATTANOOGA

IUPUI earned its first shutout of the season with a 5-0 win over Evansville.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – IUPUI softball split their two games today in the first day of the Frost Classic at Chattanooga. The Jags got a fantastic outing in game one from Meagan Overton but could only muster six hits in a loss to the hosts in the second game.

"I saw really good things today," said head coach Elizabeth Beirne. "We came out aggressive and attacked well on offense. We are just trying to learn and improve from every game."

GAME 1: IUPUI 5 – Evansville 0
IUPUI exploded early against Evansville with four runs coming in the first inning. After Maddie Keeley and Haley Ginger reached base, Mandy Dallas, who went 2-for-4, connected with her first home run of the season to put the Jags up 3-0.

Kristin London walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Addison Lorsung doubled home London to move the lead to 4-0.

Lorsung, who finished 2-for-3, brought home another run in the third with her second double of the game, scoring Dallas.

Those five runs were all the Jags would need as 'Overton was stellar in the circle, picking up her second win of the season. Overton threw a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits and striking out seven Purple Aces.

IUPUI picked up a run in the top of the fourth after a double by Lorsung brought home Haley Ginger, who doubled to lead off the inning.

The bottom of the inning started with Chattanooga hitting back-to-back doubles to chase Leonard from the game. Amanda Melzoni relieved Leonard but was met with more offense from Chattanooga as it scored five more runs in the inning to push the lead to 10-1.

Maddie Keeley scored on an error in the fifth after singling to lead off the inning for the Jags final run.
