OFFENSE SPUTTERS IN JAGUARS LOSS TO MILWAUKEE

Jaguars struggled from the field shooting its worst field goal percentage since their loss to Green Bay on Jan. 28.

INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI could not overcome some cold shooting in a 67-60 loss to Milwaukee on Monday night (Feb. 19).

The Jags (20-7, 12-4 Horizon) shot just 41.2 percent from the field and only 28 percent during the second and third quarters. Milwaukee shot 51.9 percent from the field.

Macee Williams was the leader for the Jags offensively, scoring 18 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting but beyond her, IUPUI struggled getting the ball in the basket. Tamya Sims scored 17 points on 6-for-13 shooting and Danielle Lawrence reached double-figures again but went 4-for-13 from the field.

The only two other Jaguars to score were Holly Hoopingarner (eight points) and Sydney Hall (four points).

After the Jags took a four-point lead after the first quarter, Milwaukee switched to a zone that shut down IUPUI's offense for the next two quarters. For the first time since Jan. 15 against Green Bay, IUPUI entered the fourth quarter facing a deficit.

Back-to-back threes by Lawrence to start the quarter gave IUPUI a four-point lead, its first since an 18-17 lead near the beginning of the second quarter. Milwaukee responded with an 8-0 run to take a five-point lead that they would never relinquish.

The Jags did not find their way to the free throw line as often as they had during their three-game winning streak, only getting to the line 14 times and making 11. Milwaukee did not take a free throw in the first half but made the most of their opportunities in the second half, especially when it counted, going 6-for-6 in the final quarter to put the game away.

IUPUI was outrebounded for the first time in seven games, losing the battle of boards 34-21. The Jags allowed 12 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second chance points for Milwaukee.

Milwaukee was led by Jenny Lindner, who scored 18 points, and was one of four Panthers to score in double-figures.

IUPUI will have a few days to prepare for their next game, when the Jags play host to Wright State on Friday (Feb. 23) at 7 p.m.
