ROSEMONT, Ill. – IUPUI fell in both games on Saturday at the Total Control Sports Invitational, losing in a close battle to Fort Wayne before losing to Northern Colorado to end the day.
IUPUI (1-3) had the lead against Fort Wayne until a two-run fifth inning for the Mastodons. The Jags got on the board first in the bottom of the second with a two-out rally.
Mandy Dallas' double down the left field line brought home
Kristin London and
Dani Cinquepalmi scored on the next at-bat as
Delilah Wright hit an infield single to third.
Fort Wayne cut the lead in half with a run scored on a double-play turned by the Jags.
The fifth inning was the downfall for IUPUI as Fort Wayne homered in the first at-bat of the inning. After a lineout, the Mastodons took the lead with another solo home run.
The Jags only mustered six hits on the day with three coming from Wright who was perfect at the plate.
The offense did not give enough support to starter
Dezirae Leonard (0-2) who only allowed three earned runs over 4.1 innings. Leonard only allowed six hits but did issue four walks.
Amanda Melzoni made her first appearance in the circle this season, finishing the game with 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits.
In the second game of the day, IUPUI fell to Northern Colorado 15-1 in five innings.
The lone Jaguar run came after
Maddie Keeley hit a triple and
Haley Ginger brought her home with a single.
IUPUI finishes up the Total Control Sports Invitational tomorrow (Feb. 11) against Loyola (Ill.).
