INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will continue the current four-game homestand on Saturday night (Oct. 6) when the Jaguars welcome Milwaukee (6-3-2, 2-0-1 HL) at 7:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium. Saturday's match will be aired on ESPN+ as Morgan Adcock (pxp) is on the call.

IUPUI (2-7-2, 2-2-0 HL) is coming off yet another heartbreaking non-conference defeat, having fallen to SIUE on Tuesday night on a goal in the game's 88th minute. It was the Jaguars' fifth match they've lost by a one-goal margin, four of which have come in non-conference play. SIUE took the lead in the 20th minute, only to see junior Alan Aguilar get the Jaguars even with his first career goal, coming in his 45th career contest. The game remained tied until SIUE tallied with just more than two minutes left in regulation. Riley Shives and Fernando Borges led the IUPUI attack with two shot attempts each while freshman goalkeeper Quinn McCallion made four saves in goal. Freshman Corey Goede contributed his team-high third assist of the season on the goal while Aguilar moved into a tie for second on the team in total points.

For the season, IUPUI has hung its collective hat on the defensive end of the field, recording three shutouts and a 1.26 goals against average in 11 games. Those numbers are even better against Horizon League foes as the Jaguars have blanked two league opponents and offered a 1.14 GAA in those four contests. Junior Pedro Valladao has a goal and an assist in four league games and Borges deposited the game-winner in double overtime against Oakland.

Head coach Brian Barnett has spent the bulk of the season shuffling bodies and trying different combinations as only Aguilar, McCallion and sophomore back Tommy Patacca have started all 11 matches. Shives and senior back Sam Gavin have each made 10 starts.

QUOTABLE: "Credit to SIUE. It came down to one player having the creativity to see our high line and loop a ball over our backs to make a play happen. They made the most of their chances and that was the difference in the game. We certainly had our chances and we did capitalize on one, but goals change games and maybe if we capitalize on a second one, it changes the complexion of the entire game from there. I'm proud of our guys for going toe-to-toe with an upper echelon opponent from the MAC. We had our chances but hats off to them," Barnett said after his team's 2-1 loss to SIUE.

MAKING THE GRADE: IUPUI was recognized on Wednesday (Oct. 4) with the United Soccer Coaches 2017-18 College Team Academic Award. To qualify, a team must have a collective GPA of 3.0 or better. IUPUI was one of 192 programs (four in the HL) to be honored on both the men's and women's sides.

JAGS MAKING AN IMPACT: Last spring, the IUPUI men's soccer team signed Fishers-native Tyler Harris to a letter of intent to join the program through a partnership with Team IMPACT. Harris, an 11-year old battling cystic fibrosis, was on the sidelines for his first game when the Jaguars hosted Bradley earlier this season. Harris has already had a profound impact on the Jaguars' program as members of the team have also visiting the sixth-grader at home and have plans to support him at upcoming cross country meets and other events.

HANCOCK COUNTY PROMISE: The IUPUI men's soccer team was among a large contingent of student-athletes that participated in the Hancock County Promise Day at Carroll Stadium earlier this season as Barnett and his student-athletes interacted with more than 1,000 third-graders over the course of the day.

SCOUTING MILWAUKEE: Milwaukee checks in at 6-3-2 overall and an undefeated 2-0-1 in Horizon League play. The Panthers have yielded just nine goals in 11 games as goalkeeper Freddy Lorenzen has a 0.78 goals against average and .842 save percentage. Evan Conway leads the Milwaukee attack with four goals (two game-winners) and three assists while Sean Holmes has three goals and two assists. The Panthers boast wins over Ohio State and at Marquette this season and recently played Wisconsin to a 1-1 draw in Madison, Wisc.

INSIDE THE SERIES: IUPUI is 0-3 all-time against Milwaukee, including losing to the Panthers on the road 3-0 last season.

NEXT UP: IUPUI will cap the four-game homestand on Tuesday night (Oct. 9) when the Jaguars host Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium in a match that will be aired on ESPN+.
