INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will cap the 2018 regular season with a key Horizon League showdown with Northern Kentucky (10-5, 3-3 HL) at Carroll Stadium at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 28). IUPUI will recognize the six-man senior class or Nick Anderson, Sam Gavin, Jared O'Dell, Trevor Semakula, Sean Siasia and Rodrigo Zampieri prior to Sunday's kickoff as they play in their final collegiate home game. Sunday's game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

IUPUI (3-10-3, 3-3-1 HL) enters play with 10 points in the Horizon League standings for sole possession of fourth-place. A win would almost assure the Jaguars of a berth in the six-team league tournament while a draw or loss would make for a long wait to find out the squad's fate.

Head coach Brian Barnett's squad is 3-0 in home Horizon League games this year with all three victories coming via shutout over Detroit Mercy, Oakland and Milwaukee. Freshman Quinn McCallion has been in net for all seven league games this season, posting a 0.92 goals against average in Horizon League play. Alan Aguilar, Fernando Borges and Pedro Valladao have game-winning goals in league play while sophomore Matthew Skaar tallied an equalizer in the final minute of the 1-1 draw at Cleveland State on the road.

For the year, Aguilar leads IUPUI in goals (4), points (9) and shots (20) and is tied for the team lead in shots on goal (9). Freshman defender Corey Goede has a team-high three assists from the back line while Borges has two assists, both coming in Horizon League play.

Barnett opted to rest his regulars in the Jaguars' most recent outing, which resulted in a 2-1 road loss at Purdue Fort Wayne. IUPUI struck first on a goal from Siasia, but sophomore keeper Michael Buck yielded a pair of second half goals in the defeat. Buck was among four Jaguars making their first starts of the season on Tuesday night.

MAKING THE GRADE: IUPUI was recognized on Oct. 4 with the United Soccer Coaches 2017-18 College Team Academic Award. To qualify, a team must have a collective GPA of 3.0 or better. IUPUI was one of 192 programs (four in the HL) to be honored on both the men's and women's sides.

JAGS MAKING AN IMPACT: Last spring, the IUPUI men's soccer team signed Fishers-native Tyler Harris to a letter of intent to join the program through a partnership with Team IMPACT. Harris, an 11-year old battling cystic fibrosis, was on the sidelines for his first game when the Jaguars hosted Bradley earlier this season. Harris has already had a profound impact on the Jaguars' program as members of the team have also visiting the sixth-grader at home and have plans to support him at upcoming cross country meets and other events.

HANCOCK COUNTY PROMISE: The IUPUI men's soccer team was among a large contingent of student-athletes that participated in the Hancock County Promise Day at Carroll Stadium earlier this season as Barnett and his student-athletes interacted with more than 1,000 third-graders over the course of the day.

SCOUTING NKU: Northern Kentucky checks in at 10-5 overall and 3-3 in league play with wins over Green Bay, Detroit Mercy and Cleveland State. NKU's high powered offense averages better than two goals per game and has outscored foes 36-23 on the year. Rookie forward Alex Willis ranks among the national leaders with 16 goals and seven assists while Alex Grieve ranks among the national leaders in assists with 11 to accompany his five goals. In goal, Jim Barkei has played the majority of the team's minutes with a 1.56 goals against average and 34 saves in 10 appearances.

INSIDE THE SERIES: IUPUI is 2-3-3 all-time against NKU.

NEXT UP: The Jags play the waiting game. Having a bye in the final week off the regular season, the Jags will wait to see if they qualify for the six-team Horizon League Tournament.
