DAYTON, Ohio – IUPUI volleyball suffered a three-set sweep at the hands of Wright State on Friday night (Oct. 26).
Freshman
Hannah Oehlberg led the Jags (5-20, 2-9 Horizon) with nine kills and
Abby Boatman added seven.
Maggie Gibson paced the offense tallying 24 assists. On the defensive end,
Rhiannon Schuenemann led the team with 11 digs and freshman
Rachel Hickey finished with 10. Four Jaguars – Boatman, Gibson, Oehlberg and
Haley Hoffman – each finished with three blocks.
The Jags were outhit by Wright State (12-11, 4-7 Horizon) .279 to .139 and the Raiders finished with 46 kills to just 28 by IUPUI. It was the third-straight game that IUPUI did not have a player reach double-figure kills.
Set one began with both teams staying close, trading points with the Jags tying the score at 18 after a kill by
Maddie Dean. From there, Wright State took control of the set, winning seven of the next eight points to end the frame, 25-19.
A kill by Dean midway through the second set tied the score at eight but Wright State responded with three-straight points. The Raiders used another 5-0 run to pull away from the Jags and take an 18-11 lead IUPUI could not overcome, losing set two 25-19.
Haley Hoffman's kill had set three tied at five but another 6-0 run by Wright State gave the Raiders a 17-9 lead and a 5-0 lead pushed the score to 22-10, leading to a 25-13 set loss for IUPUI.
The Jags will travel to Northern Kentucky to finish the weekend trip on Saturday at 4 p.m. The match against the Norse will be streamed on ESPN+.
