HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Freshman
Hannah Oehlberg led the Jags with 10 kills but IUPUI could not overcome a hot Northern Kentucky offense as IUPUI fell in three sets on Saturday (Oct. 27).
Oehlberg led IUPUI (5-21, 2-10 Horizon) in kills for the third straight match and
Abby Boatman was second on the team with seven kills.
Maggie Gibson handed out 23 assists but the Jags only hit .103 as a team, including -.080 in the third set.
Northern Kentucky (14-8, 6-5 Horizon) did not have issues on the offensive end, hitting .248 for the match, with a .500 hitting percentage in the first set.
The Jags finished with 43 digs, led by
Rachel Hickey with 12. No other Jaguar finished with more than eight digs. IUPUI also finished with seven blocks, with Boatman leading the way with four. Oehlberg and
Haley Hoffman each had three.
The first set went back-and-forth with IUPUI tying the set at 20 after an error by the Norse. After two NKU points, Oehlberg pulled the Jags within one but Northern Kentucky scored three-straight to take the set 25-21.
In the middle of set two,
McKayla Wright's kill put the Jags ahead 13-12. Northern Kentucky answered with six-straight point to take an 18-13 lead IUPUI would not be able to overcome. The Jags pulled within four after another Oehlberg kill but NKU closed out the set 25-20.
The Jags fell behind early in set three, 5-1 and had to try to play catch up to stay in the match. The Jags managed to get within three a couple of times but NKU had an answer, pulling ahead by eight later in the match on route to a 25-21 set win to close out the contest.
IUPUI will have a quick turnaround, playing host to Cleveland State in a Halloween matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. in the Jungle.
