FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IUPUI men's soccer team will face its final non-conference task of the 2018 season on Tuesday night (Oct. 23) when the Jaguars take on Purdue Fort Wayne at 7:00 p.m. at Hefner Soccer Complex. The Jags are winless in their past three outings, including a loss at No. 17 Wright State this past weekend. Seven of IUPUI's nine defeats this season have come by a one-goal margin, including three in overtime.
IUPUI (3-9-3) has been stout defensively all year long as freshman
Quinn McCallion owns a 1.23 goals against average and four shutouts in his 15 starts. The defensive core of
Tommy Patacca,
Sam Gavin,
Corey Goede and
Rodrigo Zampieri have kept things clean in front of him, anchoring the Jaguars' back third. Offensively, junior midfielder
Alan Aguilar has a team-high four goals, including a game-winner. Patacca has a pair of goals from his defensive spot and redshirt freshman
Fernando Borges has a goal and two assists. Borges' lone score of the season was the game-winner in overtime against Oakland University.
Junior
Pedro Valladao also has a game-winner this season, having tallied in the Jaguars' 1-0 victory over Detroit Mercy.
All total, head coach
Brian Barnett has had 21 different players start at least one match this season while Aguilar, Patacca and McCallion are the only three to have started all 15 matches. Sunday's game will be the final home game for Gavin, Zampieri,
Nick Anderson,
Jared O'Dell,
Trevor Semakula and
Sean Siasia.
Fort Wayne won last year's match between the two sides, 2-1 in Indianapolis. Anderson assisted
Uriel Macias on the game's first goal in the opening two minutes before the Mastodons tallied in the eighth and 49th minutes for the win.
Michael Buck made three stops in that contest.
