GREEN BAY, Wisc. – IUPUI began the second half of the conference play schedule on the wrong side of a 3-0 score, getting swept by Green Bay on Friday night (Oct. 19).
IUPUI (5-18, 2-7 Horizon) again struggled on the offensive end, only hitting .032 for the match.
Maggie Gibson led the Jaguars with just six kills and
Maddie Dean and
Abby Boatman were second on the team with four each. Gibson also led the team with 10 assists, while
Rebecca Schlechte added eight.
Defensively, the Jags finished with just 53 digs, allowing Green Bay (13-8, 8-1) to hit. 195.
Rhiannon Schuenemann led IUPUI with 13 digs and
Rachel Hickey added 11. At the net, IUPUI finished with six blocks, led by four from Boatman and three by Gibson.
Green Bay took all three sets by more than five points, winning set one 25-17, set two 25-15 and taking the final set 25-20.
IUPUI fell behind early in the first set as Green Bay jumped out to a 9-3 lead. An ace by Schuenemann capped a 4-1 run by IUPUI to pull within two but that is as close as the Jags got in the first set.
The second set started back-and-froth with IUPU owning the lead for most of the early part of the frame. IUPUI had a 13-12 lead after a kill by Gibson but Green Bay would close out the set on 13-2 run that included six Jaguar errors as IUPUI hit -.037 in the set.
With their backs against the wall, the Jags continued to play strong early in the third, grabbing an 11-10 lead after a block by Boatman and
McKayla Wright. A kill by Wright tied the match at 13 but the Phoenix won five of the next six points to pull ahead and IUPUI got no closer than two the rest of the way.
IUPUI will finish up the weekend trip with a match against UIC on Saturday (Oct. 20) beginning at 5 p.m. ET. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
