HALL'S CAREER-HIGH AFTERNOON GUIDES JAGS PAST PENGUINS

The junior guard finished with a career-high 24 points as IUPUI closed out a 5-1 road trip with a victory at Youngstown State.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – IUPUI won its third-straight game to start Horizon League play as Sydney Hall scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Jags to a 65-43 win over Youngstown State.

IUPUI (11-3, 3-0 Horizon) ended their six-game road trip with a 5-1 record and is the only team in the Horizon League to have an undefeated conference mark.

"Really proud of our kids finishing out this road trip the right way playing great defense," said head coach Austin Parkinson. "Going 5-1 during this six game road trip is impressive."

Hall bested her career-high of 22, set against Western Illinois last season, shooting 9-for-11 from the field and 6-for-7 from the three-point line. Hall carried the Jags in the first quarter, scoring 11 points in the frame and finishing the half with 14 points.  Hall also added three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

"I thought my teammates did a great job of hitting me when I was open and I just shot the ball with confidence tonight," said Hall.

"We've been waiting on a SydVicious game and today she carried us offensively," said Parkinson.

Late in the third quarter, Morgan Brunner hit a three to pull decrease the Jags' lead but Hall took control from there. Back-to-back jumpers by Hall gave the Jags a 13-point lead to end the third quarter and two-straight threes from Hall to start the fourth put the Jags up 58-39 and ended any hope of a comeback for Youngstown State.

After Hall, Macee Williams was the next leading scorer for the Jags with nine points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Williams and Hall combined for 13 of the 26 made field goals for the Jags and together the duo combined to shoot 76 percent from the field.

Jenna Gunn, Tamya Sims, Sydney Roule and Morgan Allen all finished with six points. Leading-scorer Danielle Lawrence scored her 1,300 career point even though she only had four points after scoring over 20 in both of her previous games but it did not matter as the Jags defense shut down the offense of Youngstown State.

IUPUI (11-3, 3-0 Horizon) held Youngstown State (6-9, 2-2 Horizon) to 43 points, 15 second-half points, and just 29 percent shooting, all season-lows for Jaguar opponents. The Penguins, who came in shooting 34 percent from the three-point line and had made the most threes in the Horizon League this season, went just 5-22 from behind the arc.

"I like the fact that in the second half our kids really got after it and rotated on defense, holding them to 43 points," said Parkinson.

Sarah Cash, the Penguins leading scorer with 11.4 points per game, scored 11, but shot just 4-12, well below the 60 percent she had been shooting prior to the game.

The Jags never trailed for the seventh time this season but the first time in the last six games. IUPUI jumped out to an 8-0 lead after back-to-back threes from Hall.  The Penguins kept the game close pulling within three late in the second but IUPUI got a three from Sims and a jumper from Williams to push the lead back to eight. Roule just beat the buzzer to end the half and give the Jags a nine-point lead.

IUPUI will come back to the Jungle for the first time in over a month as they start a three-game homestand against Detroit Mercy on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
