HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – IUPUI rebounded in a big way from its loss to Green Bay, beating Northern Kentucky 71-35.
IUPUI (14-4, 6-1 Horizon) was led by
Danielle Lawrence who finished the game with 19 points.
Tamya Sims scored 14 points on 7-11 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds.
Macee Williams scored 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting and collected a team-high nine rebounds, including four on the offensive end.
The Jags took advantage early against Northern Kentucky (4-14, 2-5 Horizon), beginning the game on a 6-0 run. After a Norse basket, IUPUI used an 11-0 run that started with a three by Lawrence, saw Sims, and
Holly Hoopingarner hit jumpers and Williams and Lawrence make layups to give the Jags a 17-2 lead.
"The start of the game tonight was important to reestablish how we defend," said head coach
Austin Parkinson. "Our kids had great energy and active hands."
The defense for IUPUI was outstanding, holding Northern Kentucky to just 35 points and 23.1 percent shooting. Both of those marks were the lowest allowed by IUPUI this season. Williams led the Jags with three blocks and IUPUI finished with 10 steals.
The game got out of hand in the third quarter as IUPUI held Northern Kentucky to just two points, the fewest allowed in a quarter by the Jags. IUPUI began the quarter with 17-straight points, including six points from Williams.
Despite struggling from the field, finishing with only three points,
Sydney Hall tied a career-high with six assists, as the Jags dished out 18 for the game.
"I also thought we shared the ball well which is a sign we are doing things the right way," said Parkinson.
IUPUI dominated the Norse, 42-20 in the paint and held a 44-34 advantage on the boards.
The Jags will be on the road again on Sunday, Jan. 21, when they take on Wright State in Dayton, Ohio at 2 p.m.
