INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI's five-game winning streak came to an end as the Jags suffered their first Horizon League loss of the year to No. 23/22 Green Bay, 60-34 on Monday (Jan. 15).
IUPUI (13-4, 5-1 Horizon) struggled to get anything to going on offense against one of the best defenses in the nation. Green Bay (14-2, 5-1 Horizon) held IUPUI to season lows in points and field goal percentage as the Jags hit just 25 percent of their shots.
The 34 points the Jags scored are the lowest since IUPUI was held to 29 points at Notre Dame on Nov. 26, 2010.
Danielle Lawrence was the only Jaguar to score in double-figures, finishing with 12 points.
Macee Williams finished with seven points but only took three shots as IUPUI struggled to get the ball inside. The Jags finished with 19 of their 40 field goal attempts coming from behind the three point line, only making two threes.
Green Bay came in to the game with a decided advantage in points in the paint and established themselves inside early, outscoring IUPUI 10-2 in the paint in the first quarter. The Jags, who had won the points in the paint battle in seven of their last eight games, only finished with eight in the painted area, compared to 36 for the Phoenix.
The Phoenix took control of the game near the end of the first quarter, using a 10-0 run that spanned in to the second quarter to take a 19-7 lead. The Jags were held scoreless after a Lawrence three, for the final seven minutes of the second quarter as Green Bay scored 13-striaght points to take a 22-point halftime lead, the largest deficit the Jags have faced all year.
The Jags, who came in to the game with third-best rebounding margin in the Horizon, lost the battle with Green Bay 31-24. It was the first time since a Dec. 10 win over Tennessee Tech that IUPUI has lost the rebounding battle.
IUPUI struggled with Green Bay's Allie LeClaire, who finished with 20 points on 8-for-9 shooting and hit both of her three point tries. Jessica Lindstrom added 15 points for the Phoenix.
The loss marks the end of IUPUI's three game homestand as the Jags will play their next four games away from the Jungle. The first of those four games will be on Friday (Jan. 19) when IUPUI heads to Highland Heights, Ky., to take on Northern Kentucky.
