INDIANAPOLIS -
Coming off back-to-back road wins, the IUPUI women's soccer team will be at home this weekend to host a pair of regional foes at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium. The Jaguars will take on Ball State on Friday night (Sept. 8) before hosting Illinois State on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 10). Both games will be broadcast on ESPN3 as Morgan Adcock (pxp) describes the action.
Adult tickets are $5 while youth tickets (ages 3-12) are just $2.
IUPUI (3-3) had an incredibly positive trip to New York City last week, registering 1-0 wins at Manhattan and Wagner on the two-game tour. Freshman
Valentine Pursey and senior
Krissy Kirkhoff netted game-winning goals on the trip while sophomore keeper
Sophia Lipka registered the back-to-back shutouts in goal.
Lipka was later named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts. Senior
Leia Peterman assisted Pursey's game-winner at Manhattan while Pursey setup Kirkhoff's winner two days later.
Pursey leads the Jaguars in points (6), shot attempts (19) and game-winners (2) while Kirkhoff is second on the team in points (4), shots (18) and game-winners. Freshman
Kamryn Benscoter has the team's other goal as the Jags have been outscored 7-5 on the season. Senior
Hayley Shelton is tied with Pursey with a team-high two assists.
Defensively, Lipka has a 1.13 goals against average and collected 29 saves in her six starts. She has an .806 save percentage and three shutouts, all of which have come on the road. The three road shutouts are the most by the program since the 2009 season when the Jaguars posted six shutouts away from home. Freshman
Natalie McNally has helped stabilize the defensive third, has played a team-high 515 minutes in the field, while senior
Sarah Jacobs has played 476 minutes.
Quotable: "We played pretty flat in the first half. In the second half, we created so many opportunities. (At halftime), coach told us to pick up the intensity. He knew we had more in us and needed to leave it all on the field," Kirkhoff said after Sunday's win at Wagner.
