CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – After a disappointing start to the final day of the Chattanooga Challenge, the IUPUI softball team (2-8) came together for some late-game heroics as the team won a walkoff with a 5-3 victory over Tennessee Tech Sunday (Feb. 19) in the Jags second game.  IUPUI lost 2-7 against UConn earlier in the day.

Maggie Armstrong was the hero for IUPUI, as the two-way player slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Jags were able to get a sac fly in the sixth to tie the game.
Nickole Finch picked up the complete game victory after working out of trouble in numerous situations.

After seeing the Golden Eagles put up a pair of unearned runs in the first inning, the Jags found a way to respond in the fourth.  After
Alyssa Matson reached on a leadoff single up the middle,
McKenzie Loge moved her into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt to the left side.  Following a fly out,
Taylor Chitwood came through with one of the biggest hits of the day, a two-run homerun that tied the game at 2-2.
A solo homerun by Tennessee Tech in the next half inning pitted the Jags to a deficit again, but they responded in the bottom of the sixth.  Matson once again reached on a leadoff single, then advanced into scoring position on a Loge sac bunt.  Matson was able to take third base on a wild pitch, then came home to score on a sac fly by
Maggie Good.  Tied heading into the seventh,
Roni Patterson reached on a one-out single to right field.  That's when Armstrong stepped in an launched the game-winning two run shot that sent the Jags home with their second win of the weekend.
With the Chattanooga Challenge now over, the Jags will head to Bowling Green, Kentucky, for the Western Kentucky Spring Fling (Feb. 24-26).  The Jags will open the weekend against the Indiana State Sycamores Friday (Feb. 24) at 1:00 p.m. EST.
