BALANCED ATTACK LEADS IUPUI OVER GEORGETOWN

Jags off to their best start since 2006 after second-straight win to start the season.

 
 
INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season behind a very well-balanced attack. The Jags had 10 players finish the game with at least six points.
 
Guard Sydney Hall led the way for IUPUI for the second-straight game with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting and hitting a team high three threes.
 
The Jags dominated down low, outscoring Georgetown 54-20 in the paint. Taylor Drake and Morgan Allen each finished second on the team with nine points and Allen took advantage of her touches making four of her five shots. Newly announced, Horizon League Freshman of the Week Macee Williams finished with seven points, going 3-for-4 from the free throw line.
 
After Allen and Drake, Jenna Gunn had eight points, Danielle Lawrence had seven and Tamya Sims, Holly Hoopingarner, Agatha Beier and Brittany Welch all had six. Beier finished with a team high seven assists as the Jags assisted on 23 of their 35 made shots.
 
The Jags made a living on the boards, outrebounding Georgetown 54-38 and 19-8 on the offensive glass. IUPUI also had 22 second-chance points to Georgetown's two. Beier was the leading rebounder for the Jags, pulling in nine and Sydney Roule and Drake each had seven.
 
The defense for the Jags was stellar again, holding Gerogetown to 32 percent from the field and forcing 25 turnovers that led to 31 points. After finishing with 20 steals against Northern Iowa, IUPUI had six steals against the Tigers with Gunn leading the way with six. IUPUI also had six blocks on the game as Sims and Drake each had two.
 
The Jags got off to another hot start, holding Georgetown to just 27 percent shooting in the first quarter on route to a 23-8 lead after ten minutes. IUPUI used two big runs in the quarter to take he advantage. Tied at two, the Jags rolled off 12-straight points with Tamya Sims scoring the final two after a steal and a layup and then knocking down a jumper.
 
IUPUI then closed the quarter on a 9-0 run, highlighted by four points from Macee Williams and a three-pointer from Agatha Beier. The Jags force eight turnovers, including five steals in the frame with Sims and Jenna Gunn each getting two.
 
In the second quarter, IUPUI shot 52 percent from the field and increased its lead, outscoring the Tigers by seven. Morgan Allen had a strong quarter, scoring nine points in the frame, including seven of the points in IUPUI's 9-2 run to take a 23-12 lead. The Jags would push their lead to 26 later in the quarter after Gunn and Brittany Welch both made layups.
 
To start the second half, a three-point bucket from Sydney Hall gave the Jags their largest lead of the game at 27. Georgetown would come back with 11-straight points as the Jags offense went cold. IUPUI responded with a three from #Allex Brown, layup by Taylor Drake and another layup from Hall to go up 61-40.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Jags pushed the lead to 30 on back-to-back threes from Lawrence and Beier. Hall then rained in another three, her third of the night, to put the Jags up 79-44.
 
IUPUI will be back at The Jungle on Friday, November 17 against in-state foe, Indiana State. The game will start at 7 p.m. and will be on ESPN3.
