HOOPINGARNER'S CAREER-HIGH NIGHT POWERS JAGS PAST INDIANA STATE

Jags win third-straight to start the season as Hoopingarner scores 23 in big win.

INDIANAPOLIS – Sophomore Holly Hoopingarner poured in a career-high 23 points to lead the Jags to an 86-57 win over Indiana State. With the win, IUPUI (3-0) is off to its best start since 1996.

Hoopingarner finished the night 9-for-11 from the floor and a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range in only 18 minutes of action. Hoopingarner became just the third Jag in school history to go at least 5-for-5 from beyond the arc. She also finished with three rebounds and one assist.

"It felt really good tonight to be able to score the amount of points that I did and see the ball go in the bucket as many times as it did," said Hoopingarner. "All credit goes to my teammates because they're the ones that recognized that I had the hot hand tonight."

Also in double-figures was Danielle Lawrence who finished with 15 points, going 6-for-9 and 3-for-6 from three, and Tamya Sims who added 10 points.
IUPUI never trailed in the game, and has yet to trail in a game this season. The Jags jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, taking a 29-12 lead after the first quarter on the way to the big win.

IUPUI's offense was dominant, shooting 56 percent (35-63) from the field and 50 percent (12-24) from the three-point line. The Jags dished out 20 assists with Lawrence and Agatha Beier tied for the team lead with four assists.

Beier also finished with nine points and five rebounds. Jenna Gunn scored eight on 4-of-6 shooting and Macee Williams scored seven and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.  IUPUI outrebounded Indiana State 44-29.

The defense for the Jags was stellar again, holding Indiana State (0-2) to 36 percent shooting on 22-for-61 shooting and only 24 percent from the three-point line (4-for-17). Wendi Bibbins lead the way for the Sycamores with 16 points.

IUPUI led 7-0 after a basket by Williams and then a jumper and three-point shot from Lawrence. With the score 9-4 in favor of the Jags, IUPUI rattled off 13-straight points with points scored by four different Jaguars during the run. Gunn capped the run with a layup to put IUPUI up 22-4 and the Jags would lead 29-12 after the first quarter.

The second quarter began in the same fashion as the first with IUPUI using a big run. Hoopingarner got things started with seven-straight points, hitting a three and making back-to-back layups. Three more layups, two by Williams and one by Gunn were followed by a three from Beier to cap a 16-0 run that saw the Jags take a 48-14 lead.

Hoopingarner wasn't done as she was the spark to another run for the Jags, this one a 15-0 run that spanned the second and third quarters. Hoopingarner started the run with back-to-back threes heading in to the half. The second half started with a Gunn layup and buckets by Lawrence and Sims were followed by a three from Lawrence to put IUPUI up 63-16.

The Jags will head to Orlando, Florida over Thanksgiving to play in the UCF Thanksgiving Classic. IUPUI will play against UCF on Saturday (Nov. 25) and finish the weekend against Wyoming on Sunday (Nov. 26).
