INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men's and women's swimming and diving teams begin their first season in the Horizon League with a dual meet against the University of Indianapolis on Thursday (Oct. 5) at 6 p.m. at the Natatorium.
Both of the men's and women's teams will look to build off of second place finished in the 2017 Summit League Championships and both teams return strong athletes.
On the men's side, junior diver Krisztian Somhegyi returns as a four-time conference champion having won both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter events the past two years. Somhegyi also owns the 3-meter record for IUPUI with a score of 388.55. Somhegyi will be joined by junior Mitch Mastey, who finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter in the 2017 conference championship.
In the pool , three swimmers will be back who have their name dotting the IUPUI record book. Junior Ben Levart hold three individual records (500 freestyle, 1000 freestyl, 1650 freestyle) and a record in the 800 freestyle relay, senior Jonathan Stoller holds records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley, and junior Josh Barajas holds the 400 IM school record.
The women's diving team will be young this season with sophomore Blaire Wills the most experienced on the roster. She will be joined by sophomore Carolyn Dietz and two other freshmen.
Junior Olivia Treski will be one of the top swimmers for the Jags women's team. Treski holds four school records in the freestyle (200, 500, 1000, 1650) and set three of them at the 2017 Summit League Championship.
