SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Senior Robert Murphy continued his brilliant final cross country season as the IUPUI men's squad put two runners among the top 10 finishers at Friday's Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday (Sept. 30).

Murphy cruised the individual title of the 5-mile race, finishing in a time of 24:19.4 to coast past his closest competition by more than 13 seconds. It was his second individual win of the season and helped the undermanned Jaguars to a third-place finish of 24 teams in the Gold Race. 

Senior Damon Pruett ran a time of 24:49.0 to finish ninth overall and fifth-year senior Dakota Dubbs was 17th at 25:06.9. The Jags were without junior Abiel Mogos, who missed the race due to injury. 

"Obviously, Murphy ran a heck of a race. He's just really consistent and brings it everytime out," IUPUI Head Coach Chuck Koeppen said. "Damon and Dubbs ran well too. We would have won with Abiel healthy.

"We are currently looking for a few others to step up and help us out."

Murphy has lost to just one runner through three meets this season with a pair of victories and a runner-up finish at the Indiana Intercollegiates. 

"I felt good and the last mile I was checking behind me to make sure that no one was coming on hard," Murphy said. 

Collectively, IUPUI tallied 141 points, trailing only Utah Valley (114) and Duquesne (120). 

Sophomore Jeremy Breedlove was the Jags' No. 4 finisher at 25:39.7 and true freshman Jacob Stamm was recently promoted to varsity and ran a time of 25:49.0 to cap the scoring five. Brandon Arnold crossed at 25:59.5 and Kyle Lewis finished at 26:03.0. Junior Connor Sorrells rounded out the Jaguars' lineup at 26:23.1. 

IUPUI will be back in action on Oct. 15 at the Indiana State Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
