JAGS DROPPED IN STRAIGHT SETS, FALL TO NDSU

The Jaguars were outperformed, hitting .135 to .295 for the Bison.

FARGO, N.D. – In the second match of their Summit League opening weekend, the IUPUI volleyball team (5-12, 1-1) fell in straight-sets (21-25, 18-25, 20-25) to North Dakota State (4-11, 2-0) Saturday (Sep. 24), a disappointing follow up after a strong showing the night before.

Kori Waelbroeck resumed her role as the offensive workhorse for IUPUI, logging 13 kills on 31 attempts, hitting .258 for the match while tallying three blocks.  Logan Walling had seven kills on a team-best .500 clip, adding two blocks, while Alexis Mapes tallied 27 assists.  IUPUI swung just .135 as a team, while the Bison hit .295. Both teams had six total blocks in the match.

Collectively plagued by mishaps and mistakes, IUPUI committed 28 total errors on both sides of the ball, while four players with attack attempts were limited to no greater than a .000 attack percentage.  The first set saw IUPUI held to just a .176 clip, while the Bison combined to hit .300.  Five errors in the set came on the attack, as IUPUI actually held a lead through most of the early action.  The Bison would eventually make a run to tie the set at 19-19, before NDSU strung together a 6-2 run to lock up the frame.

While the second set showed improvement in offensive efficiency, the Jags were unable to slow the offensive pace set by the Bison.  The Jags hit .241 to NDSU's .351 clip, logging 11 kills on 29 attempts with four errors.  The Bison held a lead as high as eight points on multiple occasions, while ultimately cruising to a second set victory with relative ease.

The action remained tightly contested in the third set, despite a woeful statistical showing for IUPUI.  Committing nine attack errors in the set to just 11 kills, the Jags still hung around and fought the Bison tooth and nail.  Getting as far as 17-17, three attack errors and a service error helped prompt an 8-3 run for NDSU, ending the set and the match, 25-20.

With the loss, the Jags will look to their home Summit League opener Friday (Sep. 30) to right the ship.  The Jags will host Western Illinois at 7 p.m. EST in the Jungle, before welcoming reigning Summit League champion Denver Saturday (Oct. 1).
