VERMILLION, S.D. - IUPUI fell 2-0 to South Dakota in game three of the weekend series against the Coyotes. The Jags (10-25, 0-8 Summit) got a strong start from
Brooke Boetjer but could not amount any offense against South Dakota's (12-26, 7-2 Summit) Madison Frain.
Boetjer delivered for the Jags who were looking to break an eight game losing streak and notch their first Summit League win of the season. The right-hander threw all six innings only allowing two unearned runs and three hits while striking out two Coyotes. Despite the strong start, the offense could not get anything working.
South Dakota's Frain was stellar on the mound throwing the complete game shutout. Frain only allowed five hits and struck out a season high ten batters.Â
The Coyotes picked up their first run in the bottom of the third when a ball to left field took a bad hop and skipped past
Maggie Good. The second run of the game came on a sacrifice fly after the runner reached base on a throwing error at third by
Taylor Chitwood.
The Jags did have chances to put runs on the board but never capitalized on the opportunities given.
Ali Mosier, who went 2-4 on the day was stranded on third base in the first inning. In inning four, Good and
Ashley Ousley singled followed by a walk to Kaitlynn Moody but Kristin London fell victim to a Frain strikeout to end the inning. Chitwood reached third in the top of the sixth but another strikeout held the Jags scoreless.
The Jags come back home to take on Wright State in a mid-week non-conference matchup, Wednesday (April 13) with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. The next Summit League series for IUPUI will be next weekend when the Jags play host to the Mastodons of IPFW.
