Results (.pdf)CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Members of the IUPUI women's track team showed well on the first of two nights at the Charlotte 49er Classic on Friday night (Mar. 18).
Valeria Guzman and
Julie Riggins highlighted the 5,000m entries while
Kelsey Tyler was the Jaguars' top finisher in the 1,500m event.
Tyler set the tone for the night, running well in the 1,500, placing 16th of more than 100 entries with a huge personal best time of 4:50.15. Running the same heat as her teammate,
Savannah Turner spun a time of 4:54.76 to place 27th overall. Tyler was fifth in the heat while Turner placed seventh. Running three heats later, senior
Katie Williams notched a time of 5:02.74 to finish ninth in her race and 46th overall. Williams missed a new PR by less than three-hundredths of a second on Friday.
In the 5K, Guzman and Riggins placed 17th and 18th, respectively, in their heat with the former crossing the finish line at 18:24.86. Riggins was just behind her at 18:25.15 as the duo worked together throughout en route to new personal bests. Guzman shaved eight seconds off her personal best and Riggins shed 12 seconds off her mark.
Senior
Lexi Hunt was ninth in her heat and 32nd overall with a time of 18:49.79 and sophomore
Haley Welch crossed at 18:52.21 in her outdoor 5K debut.
The Jaguars will continue action on Saturday (Mar. 19) with runners participating in the 800, 3,000m and 4x400 relay. Live results will be available on IUPUIJags.com and a full recap and results will be posted immediately afterwards.
