INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI played their closest match of the season Saturday morning (Feb. 6) against Bradley, but fell to the Braves 4-3. Combined with the loss on Friday (Feb. 5) to UIndy, the Jags are 0-7 to start the season.
IUPUI got off to a strong start against UIndy (1-0), with wins in doubles at No.2 from
Rachel Swartwood and
Brigitte Swartwood (6-3) and No. 3 from
Mariella Pessina and
Bobbi Modesto (7-5).
Things did not go as well for the Jags in singles play as the Greyhounds won five out of the six singles matches to win the match.
Brigitte Swartwood won the only singles point for IUPUI, beating Dana Olsen in three sets, 7-6, 1-6, 7-6.
The Jags opened up their home schedule hosting Bradley (3-2).
Sara Sherif and
Samantha Mayer won their match at No. 1 6-4 but Bradley won the doubles point with 6-4 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
In singles matches, Pessina won her match at No. 3 against Alexa Brandt, 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 4 spot, Mayer continued a strong day winning in straight sets against Aimee Manfredo, 6-2, 6-4. The Jags earned their other singles point from Modesto who won her No. 5 match 7-5, 6-3 over Irinka Toidze.
Bradley won the match by taking the other three singles matches, including a three setter against Sherif, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.
The Jags continue their homestand taking on Lipscomb on Friday (Feb. 12) at 3:00 p.m.
