CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three errors in the first two innings put the Jags in a hole that they could not overcome in a 6-1 loss to Butler on Sunday morning (Feb. 28). The Jags allowed five of the six Bulldog runs with two outs.
Kaitlynn Moody started off the first inning strong, getting the first two outs, but struggled getting the final out of the inning. Brandyce Sallee doubled to center field and moved to third after an illegal pitch. After walk put runners on the corners, an error by
Morgan Schlobohm allowed Sallee to score and give Butler the 1-0 lead.

The Jags (5-8) struggled again defensively in the second inning. An error by
Roni Patterson allowed the first runner of the inning to reach. Later in the inning, with two outs and runners on second and third, a grounder skipped off the glove of
Taylor Chitwood and went in to right field scoring two and pushing the Butler lead to 3-0.

IUPUI got on the board in the top of the third. With two outs and no one on,
Ali Mosier drilled her first home run of the season to deep center field to make it 3-1.

More two-out woes plagued the Jags in the top of the fifth. After getting the first two outs on a ground out and pop up Moody gave up back-to-back solo home runs to Alyssa Lach and Cheyenne Thompson.

The Jags best chance came in the sixth inning. Schlobohm led off the inning with a single but was retired on a Patterson groundout. Chitwood's single up the middle put runners on first and second for
Maggie Good. Good reached on a fielder's choice to third that forced out Patterson bringing up Moody with two outs. Moody hit the ball hard up the middle on the ground but Butler's pitcher, Kristin Gutierrez snagged the ball and threw to first to end the inning.

Butler (6-7) added another run in the top of the 7
th on a wild pitch to move the lead to 6-1.

The Jags came back from four down in the seventh against Georgetown earlier this weekend and were looking for another rally in this one.

With one out,
Ashley Ousley got things started with a single, her second hit of the day.
Alyssa Neff popped up to third for out number two. Mosier stepped to the plate looking to keep the game alive and drew a walk.
Maggie Armstrong pinch hit for Schlobohm, but Armstrong struck out to end the game.

The Jags are back in action next weekend in Oxford, Ohio for four games.
