INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's tennis team ran into a buzzsaw as the Jaguars fell to Ball State on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 27) inside West Indy Racquet Club, 6-1. Ball State swept the doubles point and followed by winning five of six singles matches in the victory.
IUPUI's lone bright spot came from
Sara Sherif at No. 3 singles as she dispatched BSU's Julia Sbircea, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) for her team-high seventh singles win of the year.
In doubles play, Ball State claimed easy wins at the top two spots before
Bobbi Modesto and
Mariella Pessina played a grinder against the Cardinals' No. 3 duo. However, BSU's Bethany Moore and Isabelle Dohanics ousted Modesto and Pessina in a tiebreaker to claim a 7-6 win.
Aside from Sherif's win, Pessina played Dohanics tough at No. 4 singles, falling 6-3, 6-4.
Ball State won for the fifth straight time this spring and seventh time in eight matches, improving to 8-2 on the season. IUPUI will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 5 when they open Summit League play against Western Illinois at the West Indy Racquet Club. That match is slated for 3:30 p.m. and is FREE and open to the public.
