Full Results (.html)INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's tennis team saw it's three-game winning streak snapped on Friday night (Feb. 26) as Cincinnati waltzed to a 7-0 victory over the Jaguars inside West Indy Racquet Club.
The visiting Bearcats (6-2) captured the doubles point by virtue of victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots in the lineup.
Rachel Swartwood and
Sara Sherif lost at the top spot 6-0 while
Mariella Pessina and
Bobbi Modesto were dropped at No. 3, 6-3. IUPUI's duo of
Samantha Mayer and
Valeriia Lavrenchuk were locked in a 4-4 tie at the No. 2 slot in the lineup when doubles play was halted.
In singles, IUPUI dropped all six decisions, but pushed the Bearcats to the brink in multiple matches.
Swartwood and Sherif won their opening sets at Nos. 2 and 3 respectively, but both succumbed in three-set decisions. Swartwood opened with a 6-4 victory, but then fell 6-2 and 10-4 in a decisive 10-point tiebreaker. Sherif opened with a 6-4 win, but dropped subsequent sets 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Lavrenchuk put up a solid fight at the top spot against UC's Ali Miller, falling 6-2, 6-4.
IUPUI will continue the homestand on Saturday (Feb. 27) when the Jaguars host Ball State at 3:30 p.m. inside West Indy Racquet Club. Admission is FREE and open to the public. A full recap and results of Saturday's action will be posted to IUPUIJags.com immediately afterwards.
