JAGS OFFENSE SPUTTERS IN 5-1 LOSS TO LIPSCOMB

Wright and Neff combine for five of six Jags hits in game

ROSEMONT, Ill. - IUPUI only managed six hits on the day as the offense fell flat in a 5-1 loss to Lipscomb. The Jags first five hitters in the lineup went a combined 0-14 in the defeat.

Freshman Erica Tharp made her first start of the season and the first two at-bats of the game went well for Tharp with a ground out and a pop up. With two outs things started to unravel. Tharp gave up a double to Caitlin Plocheck and then a two-run home run to Abby Fenichel. After the next batter tripled, Tharp's day was done.

Kaitlynn Moody replaced Tharp and got the Jags out of the inning.

The offense sputtered to start the game not getting a batter on base in the first two innings.

In the top of the third Lipscomb extended its lead. After loading the bases, Fenichel hits a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. Later in the inning, a wild pitch by Moody brought in a run and Lipscomb led 4-0 after two and half innings of play.

The Jags got their first hit in the bottom of the third thanks to Alyssa Neff. Neff moved to third on a single by Delilah Wright, who finished 3-3 on the morning, putting the Jags in business with the top of the order up. Ali Mosier walked to load the bases but two straight groundouts left the bases loaded and ended the threat.

Moody kept the Jags in the game, only giving up three runs on six hits in her 6.1 innings of work, but the offense could not get going against Mandy Jordan.

IUPUI managed to get on the scoreboard in the sixth when Neff singled to right field to bring home Maggie Good but that was all the offense the Jags could muster for the morning.

The Jags will be back in action later this evening against Indiana State. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 5:30 ET.
