Photo GalleryINDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's tennis team's streak of near misses continued to Friday afternoon (Feb. 12) as the Jaguars lost to Lipscomb, 5-2 inside West Indy Racquet Club.
Lipscomb (3-2) opened the match by winning the always important doubles point and followed by collecting four of six singles wins in the victory.
Lipscomb opened with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles while
Samantha Mayer and
Sara Sherif were locked in a 4-4 tie at the No. 1 spot in a match that was left unfinished.
As the teams moved on to singles action, Lipscomb earned a quick victory at No. 5 as Melissa Kromer defeated dependable senior
Bobbi Modesto by a 6-2, 6-1 score. Sophomore
Valeriia Lavrenchuk fell at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2 and Mayer was defeated at No. 4, 6-1, 6-4.
Rachel Swartwood continued her strong spring with a win at No. 2 over Katerina Kandyba, 6-4, 7-5. Her younger sister
Brigitte Swartwood won the tightest match of the day at No. 6, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 1-0 (11-9).
IUPUI will continue the busy weekend on Sunday (Feb. 14) when the Jaguars host both Bowling Green and Valparaiso at West Indy. The BGSU match will start at 9:30 a.m. while the Valpo match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m..
