SWIMMING AND DIVING START SEASON AT HOME VS UINDY

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in a trio of events over three days, starting with a dual meet against the University of Indianapolis.

INDIANPOLIS – The start of the 2016-17 swimming season for the men's and women's swimming and diving teams kicks off this weekend with a trio of events, starting with a meet at home against the University of Indianapolis.  The Jags will compete in the Thursday (Oct. 6) event, before hosting an intrasquad meet Friday (Oct. 7) follow by an individual-competition meet with Western Illinois Saturday (Oct. 8).

"We're very excited about the teams we've put together this season," Assistant Coach Andrew Ellwanger said.  "Both our returners and new additions to the roster this season have been doing a lot of great things in the pool, and have both met as well as exceeded the expectations of our coaching staff.  The team has great chemistry and this should really be a fun season."

The dual with UIndy marks the first time in the Mat Bos era that the Jags and Greyhounds will compete directly against one another.  Saturday's meet with Western Illinois will not follow standard team scoring of dual meets.  Rather, individual results will be tracked.

This year, the men's team was picked to finish second in the Summit League preseason polls, while the women's team was picked third.  Last season, the team's finished second and fourth, respectively.

Last year, IUPUI landed 17 student-athletes on the All-Summit League performers list, in addition to earning the men's diving MVP (Krisztian Somhegyi) and diving coach of the year (Eric Barnes).  Three student-athletes were named All-Academic Summit League performers.

New to the roster this season, IUPUI added three Division I transfers to the women's team.  Olivia Treski (University of Kentucky), Mallory Buha (University of Buffalo) and Brooke Holmes (University of Nebraska) will all look to make substantial impacts on an already experienced roster.

The men's team returns Jon Stoller, who became the first Jaguar swimmer since 2004 to win an individual event at the Summit League Championships when he took gold in the 200 Breaststroke with a school-record time of 1:58.61.
