IUPUI STUMBLES AT AKRON, 7-0

Jaguars will continue two-game trip at Dayton on Saturday (Jan. 30)

AKRON, Ohio - The IUPUI women's tennis team fell victim to a strong Akron squad on Friday afternoon (Jan. 29) by a 7-0 count at LaTuchie Tennis Center. The host Zips scratched out a hard fought doubles point before sweeping the six singles matches en route to the victory. 

Akron improved to 2-0 on the young season while IUPUI slid to 0-4 with all four losses coming on the road. 

In doubles action, the Jaguars got a victory at the No. 1 spot as Samantha Mayer and Sara Sherif drubbed Sophia Geier and Karalina Maksimova by a 6-2 score, but Akron won by the same score at the No. 2 spot. The point ultimately came down to the No. 3 slot where Akron's Carli Knezevich and Carla Flores edged Brigitte Swartwood and Rachel Swartwood, 7-5. 

In singles play, Akron was dominant, handing the Jaguars straight set losses in all six matches. 

The elder Swartwood, Rachel, played the tightest of the six decisions, falling to Maksimova at the No. 2 spot, 7-5, 6-2. Sherif lost 6-3, 6-3 to Newnes at the No. 3 spot and senior Bobbi Modesto was defeated at No. 5, 6-0, 6-4. 

IUPUI will take on Dayton at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, immediately following the men's match between the two schools.
