MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - After starting the season with back-to-back losses on the road to Big Ten foes, the task didn't get any easier for the IUPUI women's tennis team on Saturday (Jan. 23) as the Jaguars fell at Marquette, 7-0 at Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The host Golden Eagles swept all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in the victory.

In doubles play, the Swartwoods - Brigitte and Rachel - were swept at the No. 2 spot before Samantha Mayer and Sara Sherif fell at No. 1 to yield the doubles point. Valeriia Lavrenchuk and Mariella Pessina played the tightest of the three doubles matches, falling 7-5 in the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, Marquette got a quick win from Paula Tormos Sanchez over Mayer at No. 4 to go ahead, 2-0. MU's Erin Gebes followed suit with a 6-4, 6-4 over Rachel Swartwood at No. 2 just before Lavrenchuk lost her match at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2.

The hosts sealed the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sherif, who was making her spring debut after missing the opening two matches.

Pessina dropped her decision at No. 5 to Aleeza Kanner and senior Bobbi Modesto fell at No. 6, 7-6, 6-1.

IUPUI will be back in action next weekend when the Jaguars play a pair of matches in the Buckeye State. The weekend will start with a match on Friday (Jan. 29) at Akron, followed by a Saturday (Jan. 30) matchup at Dayton.
