WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The IUPUI women's tennis team's stiff early season scheduled continued with a meeting with No. 44 Purdue inside Schwartz Tennis Center on Sunday (Jan. 17). The host Boilers won all six singles matches in straight sets to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Purdue took an early 1-0 lead in doubles action, claiming 6-0 wins at the top two spots. IUPUI's No. 3 duo of
Valeriia Lavrenchuk and
Mariella Pessina dropped a 4-1 decision to Purdue's Claudia Escribens and Natalia Davila.
In singles action, Davila made it 2-0 with a quick win over Pessina at No. 4 and Andjela Djokovic earned a win over IUPUI's
Rachel Swartwood at No. 2 by a 6-1, 6-0 count to make it 3-0.
The Boilers sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over
Samantha Mayer at No. 3. Senior
Bobbi Modesto had the tightest of the singles matches, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Purdue's Marta Ruedas-Burgos at the No. 6 spot.
Both of the Jaguars' losses to start the season have come to top 60 foes as IUPUI was defeated at No. 58 Illinois on Saturday.
IUPUI will return to action next Saturday (Jan. 23) when the Jaguars face Marquette in Milwaukee at 4:00 p.m..
