Live StatsLive VideoINDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The IUPUI men's soccer team (0-0-1) finally lace up the cleats at home as the Jags host Butler (1-0-0) in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Tuesday (Sept. 1) at 7:30 p.m. It's IUPUI's first home contest of the 2015 campaign.
Head Coach
Isang Jacob's crew will take the pitch at Michael A. Carroll Stadium following a 5 p.m. contest between the IUPUI and Butler women's programs.
"It's certainly an exciting rivalry," Jacob said. "Since [Coach] Snape has arrived, we're 1-2-1. They're a very good team; a very dynamic team up top. Beating Wisconsin at Wisconsin is a very respectable result and I see them making a run for the Big East."
The Indianapolis rival makes the lengthy, five-mile trip south to downtown. The Bulldogs are coming back to Indy following a 1-0 victory over Wisconsin (0-1-0) in Madison last Friday (Aug. 28). Butler was outshot by the Badgers in the contest (11-8) but found the go-ahead score in the 66th minute from substitute Bennett Kim.
The Jags enter the home-opener following a 1-1 draw on the road with defending Horizon League Co-Champs, Detroit, last Friday (Aug. 28). The Jags outshot the Titans in the contest (16-11) with the lone goal coming off the crown of senior captain
Clint Hoffar in the 23rd minute. It was the defender's first career goal with the assist credited to freshman
Nick Anderson off of a corner kick.
The Titans responded late in the second half (81st minute) before a pair of scoreless overtimes left Titan Field without a winner.
"We could've done some things different to finish out that match, but we're moving on," Jacob added. "Now we're in the beginning of a three-game home stand. We're definitely excited to be back at home."
IUPUI hopes to have continued success on the defensive end as the Jags have allowed just two goals in three games dating back to the preseason. The senior backbone of Hoffar and keeper
Eduardo Cortes have proven to be the model of consistency on defense, while the Jags' unselfish offense has led to four goals from four different players, including preseason competition. The sophomore striker duo of
Uriel Macias and
Emmanuel Usen hope to net a few more opportunities as well.
Tuesday night's match will feature nine players–four from IUPUI and five from Butler–who played their high school soccer in Indianapolis or surrounding areas. Opening kick is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium with the women's game set for 5 p.m.. Admission is free but fans who cannot attend can
watch the match live.
