TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The IUPUI softball team ripped off 14 hits and scored 10 runs in the late innings to claim a 10-3 win over Indiana State at Price Field on Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 21). IUPUI improved to 28-12 on the season with the 28th victory establishing a new Division I-era record. The Jaguars extended their current winning streak to five straight and seven-in-a-row in non-conference games.
The bottom third of the Jaguars' batting order went a combined 8-for-12 at the dish and junior
Brooke Boetjer (17-9) earned the win in the circle.
ISU (18-25) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead against Boetjer thanks to a Megan Stone RBI double, who later scored a run of her own on a double steal. The Sycamores' lead increased to 3-0 in the third inning when Stone belted her ninth homer of the season, but the Jaguars immediately answered with three runs in the top of the fourth.Â
Roni Patterson opened the inning with a walk and
Eryn Dillon followed with a sharp single to left.
Maggie Good put the Jaguars on the board when she reached on an error, allowing Patterson to score from second.
Megan Cory followed with an RBI ground out and
Sarah Lawrence tied the game with a single back up the middle, plating Good.
Delilah Wright continued the inning with an infield hit and
Ali Mosier loaded the bases with a walk, but after a pitching change,
Morgan Schlobohm was retired on a comebacker.
The Jaguars batted around again in the fifth, scoring five times to take control of the game. Dillon drilled a one-out homer to right-center and later
Taylor Chitwood scored Good with a double to center. Cory made it back-to-back doubles by clubbing a gapper to right-center and Wright capped the inning with a two-run double to left-center.
IUPUI tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth on a Good sacrifice fly and Lawrence's RBI single. Both Cory and Wright went 3-for-4 on the day and four different Jaguars scored a pair of runs.
After a rocky start, Boetjer was superb, allowing just three hits and three walks in five innings of work. Freshman
Lily Del Toro pitched two scoreless frames to end it, walking one and registering a strikeout.
IUPUI will return home this weekend for a three-game Summit League series with Omaha on Friday and Saturday. The two teams will play two on Friday (Apr. 24) at the IUPUI Softball Complex before capping the series on Saturday (Apr. 25).
