FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The regular season didn't end the way the IUPUI women's tennis team had hoped for this weekend as the Jags dropped a pair of road matches at in-state foes Ball State and Fort Wayne.
On Friday, the Cardinals downed the Jaguars, 7-0, before the Jags fell short in their Summit League finale at IPFW, 5-2, on Saturday, dropping them to 7-12 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
On Friday against the Cardinals, it was Ball State that took the doubles point before taking five of the six singles matches in straight sets. The only match that extended to a third set was at the No. 3 position where
Bobbi Modesto bounced back from a first-set loss to win 6-4 in set two extending the match to a third-set tiebreaker. In the race to 10 points, Modesto was unable to pull out the comeback win falling 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
Similar to Friday night, the Jags struggled in doubles against the Mastodons on Saturday seizing just four total games as IPFW swept all three matches by scores of 8-2, 8-1 and 8-1.
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets, but IUPUI came out on top in two of the matches. Again, it was Modesto that played well at the three spot winning 7-6 (2), 6-2, while the other win came from
Marina Schneiger at the sixth spot, 6-1, 6-4.
Up next for the Jags is the Summit League Tournament, which begins on Friday, April 24, back in Fort Wayne. Seeds and match times have yet to be determined.
