SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Looking for a bounce back win following a 2-1 loss earlier in the day, the IUPUI softball team had four players drive in runs and it received another stellar performance in the circle from
Brooke Boetjer to lead it past Southern Utah, 6-0.
Boetjer, who gave up two runs in 2.0-plus innings earlier in the day against Sacramento State, went the distance for her eighth complete game of the season while giving up just three hits en route to claiming her 11th win of the season.
Offensively,
Ali Mosier and
Roni Patterson drove in two runs apiece to pace the team, but Mosier's two-RBI made her IUPUI's all-time D-I era RBI leader with 81 RBI.
In its loss earlier in the day to Sacramento State, IUPUI (13-4) fell behind early and was unable to mount a comeback. The Jags flipped the script against the Thunderbirds in the nightcap.
Mosier led off the game with a single before moving into scoring position by stealing second base. A bunt single from
Sarah Lawrence ensued placing her on first base, and then the duo successfully executed a double steal to move to third and second base, respectively. Two batters later,
Eryn Dillon lifted a sacrifice fly to put the Jags in front, 1-0.
Boetjer navigated her way around a leadoff single in the bottom of the first without giving up a run, and the Jags were able to come back in the second to add to their lead.
Morgan Schlobohm brought home the first run in the second inning on a fielder's choice, and later a RBI walk from
Roni Patterson upped the Jags margin to 3-0.
Patterson drove in another run in the top of the fifth on a solo home run, before Mosier tacked on two more with a two-RBI double in the sixth to slide the lead to 6-0.
Boetjer took care of the rest as she didn't give up a hit in the final four innings to finish off the 6-0 win.
The Jags conclude the tournament on Saturday, March 7, when they take on Bryant at 2:30 p.m. ET.
