BOETJER, ESCAMILLA POST SHUTOUTS TO EXTEND JAGS WINNING STREAK TO SIX

Boetjer went 7.0 innings with seven K's in a 5-0 win over Northern Illinois, while Escamilla went 5.0 innings with 5 strikeouts in an 11-0 win over Indiana State

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Another impressive pitching performance from the duo of Brooke Boetjer and Emili Escamilla helped the IUPUI softball team to a 5-0 win over Northern Illinois and an 11-0 win over Indiana State Sunday afternoon at the Rosemont Dome in Rosemont, Ill.

The wins capped off a 4-0 week for the Jags, who earned a doubleheader sweep over Youngstown State on Friday night, and extended their winning streak to six games as they upped their record to 10-3 – the best start for the team through 13 games during its D-I era.

Boetjer posted her seventh complete game of the season in the opener, and struck out seven while walking three and giving up three hits as the Jags downed the Huskies, 5-0.

But it wasn't just Boetjer's pitching that was impressive, as she drove in four of the five runs thanks to a grand slam in the first inning, her first home run of the season. Boetjer led the Jags at the plate going 2-for-3, while Eryn Dillon drove in the other run of the game with a RBI in the third to cap off the scoring.

In Game 2 against Indiana State, the Jags had a similar formula with Escamilla shutting down the Sycamores offense in the circle and the Jags using the long ball to pick up the win.

Ali Mosier delivered two home runs in the game, including one to lead-off the game, and once she blasted the home run during her first at-bat the Jags never looked back.

The score remained 1-0 in IUPUI's favor entering the fourth, before the first nine batters all reached base and scored opening a 10-0 lead. During the inning, Taylor Chitwood had a RBI double, Maggie Good drove in two runs on a single, Ashley Ousley cleared the bases on a three-RBI triple, and Mosier delivered a two-run homer. Roni Patterson then capped off the inning with a RBI ground out.

An inning later, another Good RBI single following a Delilah Wright triple plated another run upping the margin to 11-0. Escamilla then worked around a single and an error in the bottom of the fifth by striking out the next three batters to preserve the shutout.

Escamilla went 5.0 innings giving up two hits and striking out five to pick up the victory.

Up next for the Jags is a trip to San Luis Obispo, Calif., March 5-7, where they will take on Cal Poly, Sacramento State, Southern Utah and Bryant.
