MACOMB, Ill. – The IUPUI women's tennis team swept the doubles and the singles matches to defeat Western Illinois, 7-0, in Summit League action Saturday afternoon.
The win evened IUPUI's record at 4-4 this season, and improved the Jags to 2-0 in the Summit League. The win is also IUPUI's third straight.
The Jags took all three doubles matches with the top duo of
Valeriia Lavrenchuk and
Samantha Mayer, and the No. 3 tandem of
Rachael Bridegroom and
Bobbi Modesto each winning by scores of 8-2. With the point already determined, the team of
Abbey Neff and
Marina Schneiger came away with the 8-7 win, winning the tiebreaker 7-5.
In singles action, all six matches went the Jags way in straight sets. Lavrenchuk claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win at the top spot, which was followed by Neff claiming a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position. Modesto won 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot, while Mayer and Schneiger added 6-0, 6-2, and 6-2, 6-0 wins, respectively, at the fourth and fifth spots. Bridegroom then closed things out winning at the sixth position.
The Jaguars are back in action on Sunday, March 1, when they host Green Bay at 10 a.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club.
