PHILADELPHIA, Miss. - The IUPUI men's and women's golf teams will open the spring slate this week when the Jaguars participate in the Frito Lay Allstate Intercollegiate, hosted by Jackson State University at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club. Both teams are expected to play 18 holes on both Monday (Feb. 23) and Tuesday (Feb. 24).
Dancing Rabbit was named the "Best Course in the State" by Mississippi Magazine and among the Top 100 Best Resort Courses by GolfWeek Magazine.
Head Coach
John Andrews will open the spring with the lineup of
Derek Rohlfing,
Santiago Ruiz,
Jackson Juerling,
Jose Pablo Segurola and
Rylan Porter with
Jay Holderman playing as an individual.
Porter enters the spring with the Jaguars' top stroke average at 72.78 in limited playing time while Segurola is second on the team at 73.31. Segurola had a team-high three top-10 finishes during the fall, including winning the Butler Fall Invitational with an even par 210. Rohlfing is third on the squad at 74.54 in 13 rounds. Collectively, the Jaguars had a 296.31 scoring average during the fall in six tournaments, totaling 16 competitive rounds.
Andrews' squad finished fourth at this event last season with a 36-hole 616 (315-301) while Segurola captured medalist honors at 1-over 145 (71-74). Ruiz closed tied for 17th at 10-over 154 (76-78) and Rohlfing shot 17-over 161 (84-77).
On the women's side, Andrews will use the lineup of
Aneta Abrahamova,
Kelli Witt,
MeKenzie Hilsmeyer,
Erin Ingram and
Sara Saetre while senior
Carolyn Kupchik will make her season debut while playing as an individual.
Ingram was the Jaguars' top player during the fall, registering a 78.42 scoring average in 12 rounds, including a pair of top-10 finishes. Abrahamova checks in with a 79.00 stroke average and Witt is third on the squad at 80.54. The Jaguars come in with a 326.18 scoring average, but that number is inflated as Andrews' squad played multiple split-squad events during the fall portion of the schedule.
This year marks the first time the IUPUI women's team has ever competed in this event.
Full results and recaps will be posted throughout this week's tournament.
