VALPARAISO, Ind. - The IUPUI women's tennis team earned a clean sweep for the weekend, picking off a road win at Valparaiso on Saturday (Feb. 14) by a 4-3 score. After dropping the doubles point, the Jaguars rallied to win four of the six singles matches to secure the non-conference win. Junior
Bobbi Modesto, from nearby Chesterton, secured the win with a singles victory at the No. 3 spot.
IUPUI (3-4) lost the top two spots of doubles, while Modesto and
Rachael Bridegroom coasted to a 6-2 win over Michele Fredlake and Megan Barthels at the No. 3 spot.
Needing to dominate the courts in singles to earn the win, the Jaguars did so, beginning with
Valeriia Lavrenchuk's decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory at the top spot to even the match. Fellow freshman
Samantha Mayer followed suit with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4 before VU's Kathleen Hebble evened the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over
Abbey Neff at the No 2 spot.
However, Bridegroom and Modesto sealed the deal with wins, beginning with the former's convincing 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot. Modesto followed up with a 6-3, 6-2 victory to seal the match. With the outcome in hand, freshman
Marina Schneiger lost her match at No. 5, 7-5, 6-2.

Yulia Smirnova's team will be back on the road on Feb. 21 when the Jaguars face UW-Milwaukee in Milwaukee.
